BALTIMORE (WRIC) — The body of the sixth worker killed in the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse was recovered on Tuesday, putting an end to a search that lasted over a month.
According to a press release provided by Maryland state officials, on Tuesday, May 7, the body of 37-year-old José Mynor López of Baltimore was found by salvage teams. He was the final man unaccounted for since the collapse in late March.
“With heavy hearts, today marks a significant milestone in our recovery efforts and providing closure to the loved ones of the six workers who lost their lives in this tragic event,” said Col. Roland Butler, Jr., the superintendent of the Maryland Department of State Police, in the release.
Lopez and five other construction workers tasked with performing repairs on the bridge the morning of March 26 tragically died after the collapse, caused by the container ship Dali striking one of the bridge’s supports.
“As we mourn with the families, we honor the memory of José Mynor López, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, Carlos Daniel Hernandez Estrella, and Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez,” Butler said.
