NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, expects this to be their busiest Thanksgiving travel period.
Did you know you could receive a meal voucher or a refund if your flight is canceled or significantly delayed? Officials predict to screen around 18.3 million people from Tuesday to next Monday.
But unfortunately, they’re still seeing some delays and cancelations. According to FlightAware, on Tuesday there were more than 4,500 delays and 82 cancelations across airports in the country.
However, there’s a silver lining.
According to the U.S Department of Transportation passengers can receive a meal voucher if a cancelation has them waiting three or more hours for a new flight.
And passengers will receive automatic refunds if the airline cancels a flight, regardless of reason as long as you don’t choose to be rebooked.
That was good news to traveler Andrew Avery who once had his flight delayed for four hours in Atlanta.
“I don’t know who would dislike that. I’d be concerned,” Avery said.
However, traveler Eliza Blythe thinks it’s just a nice gesture.
“I would feel slightly better, but I would still want to get to where I want to no matter what. That would be better than a voucher, I think,” Blythe said.
