LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man who climbed to the top of the Sphere in Las Vegas Wednesday morning has been taken into police custody, authorities said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan police first received a call about the climber shortly after 10 a.m.

“We are responding to reports of an individual scaling a building near the 200 block of Sands Avenue. Please avoid the area due to emergency vehicles responding,” the police department said in a statement.

The man could be seen on the top of the more than 300-foot-tall entertainment structure, which opened at the end of September 2023.

Sources have confirmed to Nexstar’s KLAS that the man is 24-year-old Maison DesChamps, and his climb was live-streamed by an alleged accomplice. His account was taken down shortly after the incident. DesChamps, who calls himself “Pro-Life Spider-Man” is a known pro-life activist.

He was arrested shortly after Wednesday’s stunt and faces charges of destroying the property of another and conspiracy to destroy real/personal property.

“We are grateful to the local authorities for their support in this matter,” a spokesperson for Sphere Entertainment Co. said in a statement.

Earlier Wednesday morning, Des Champs posted a photo of a banner reading “abortion is murder” on his Instagram and tagged the NFL’s official account. Las Vegas is set to host Super Bowl LVIII in just a few days.

Des Champs has made similar climbs before, scaling Oklahoma City’s Devon Tower in June 2022 and Chicago’s Accenture Tower in October.

In both cases, Des Champs was ultimately taken into custody. Like those climbs, Des Champs’ climb of the Sphere is intended to serve as an anti-abortion protest.
