A South Carolina man arrested Tuesday in Dare County is now facing a murder charge for the 2012 disappearance of his wife.
Authorities say Robert “Bob” McCaffrey reported that this his wife, Marjorie “Gayle” McCaffrey, was missing in Charleston. Detectives became suspicious about the circumstances of Gayle’s disappearance during the course of the investigation.
Gayle still has not been found, despite numerous searches by local, state and federal authorities as well as family and friends.
Authorities say Bob McCaffrey was charged in March 2014 with obstruction of justice, based on inconsistencies in a statement he had provided.
The Dare County Sheriff’s Office said McCaffrey was arrested Tuesday on a fugitive warrant at their office while he was checking on something. McCaffrey is awaiting extradition to Charleston County, South Carolina — where he will be charged with murder.
