ST. LOUIS (KTVI) — A man was taken into custody after an hours-long hostage situation ended peacefully at a hotel in downtown St. Louis on Wednesday, according to police.
Officers were called to a Drury Plaza Hotel for a domestic disturbance around 5:15 a.m. Police said a man was holding a woman and two children in a hotel room. One of the children had called 911, and during the call, police said the suspect got on the phone stating he was armed.
The children were locked in the bathroom while the man and woman were arguing in the hotel room, according to authorities.
Police evacuated guests from the building as a SWAT team and hostage negotiators arrived.
The children were released from the room around 6:15 a.m., police said. The suspect kept the woman in the hotel room until just before 3:45 p.m. The man came out about 45 minutes later.
No one was seriously injured. Police said the man and woman know each other, but it remains unclear what their relationship is.
“She’s doing well; everyone is doing well,” said St. Louis police Capt. Joseph Morici. “He’s getting the psychiatric help that he needs and she was uninjured, so she is home with family right now.”
Nexstar’s KTVI reached out to hotel management, but they had no comment on the matter.
