HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A 14-year-old girl was arrested after a student was attacked in a restroom inside their high school.
The incident took place inside a restroom at Armwood High School on Thursday and was recorded on video that was shared on social media.
In the video, a girl is seen being punched and kicked repeatedly and dragged across the bathroom floor by her hair as other students stood around and watched.
Officials said a school official ran into the bathroom after she heard the girl screaming and managed to get them separated.
Investigators said the perpetrator was upset that the victim’s cousins had been following her around the school.
The girl was suspended from school and arrested at her residence without incident. She is charged with battery and false imprisonment.
The student who recorded the video is being disciplined in accordance to school guidelines, officials said.
“Like, my kids don’t come to school to fight, they don’t come to offend anybody,” said parent Hiram Flores.
“My concern is, for their safety, because if no one is doing anything about it, I already decided that I’m going to end up taking my kids out and home schooling them.”
Fellow parent Christopher Durant plans on having a conversation about the incident with his son.
“Was he aware of it? Did he hear anything? What’s going on at the school? How is he liking it? Because he’s a ninth grader.”
“I will continue to have zero tolerance for school violence and will put a stop to students that seek attention by preying on fellow classmates,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Parents deserve to know that their children are safe and our youth should not be afraid of going to school each day to further their education.”
