TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Hillsborough County deputies had their hands full Thursday morning after a kangaroo got loose at a Florida apartment complex.

“A kangaroo? On the loose? You read that right,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office wrote of the incident on Facebook.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the apartments located near Fowler Avenue and 56th Street in Tampa after the kangaroo got itself trapped in the apartment’s pool area.

The sheriff’s office released video of the kangaroo hopping around after a 911 caller reported seeing the exotic animal.

“Fire or medical?” the dispatcher asked.

“I guess police. There’s, uh, a kangaroo in my apartment complex,” the caller exclaimed.

After HCSO’s Agriculture Unit verified proper registrations for the animal, the kangaroo was reunited with its owner. But one Facebook follower found that part just as unbelievable as the loose kangaroo.

“Reunited with its owner??!!! I’m over here thinking it’s from Busch Gardens and it’s someone’s pet!” she wrote.
