ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at the Albuquerque International Sunport on Tuesday because of a disruptive passenger.
The flight, bound for Chicago, had to return to Albuquerque shortly after takeoff “due to a disturbance in the cabin involving a disruptive customer,” American Airlines said in a statement.
“The flight landed safely and the aircraft was met by local law enforcement upon arrival,” the statement continued.
Emma Ritz captured footage of the incident, saying she saw a man attempting to open the emergency exit door after takeoff.
In the video, included at the top of this story, you can see passengers seemingly restrain the man before carrying him toward the back of the flight. Witnesses said the man’s legs and arms were bound with duct tape.
The video also shows authorities escorting the man away.
The Albuquerque Police Department has not released any other details.
This came a day before a flight from New Jersey to Los Angeles was forced to divert to Chicago’s O’Hare for a “security concern.” While passengers and local media reports claim it was because of an alleged bomb threat, authorities have released little details.
