LEHI, UTAH (NBC) – A late-night collision turns out to be a “hoot” after an owl gets stuck behind the grill of a car.
Rushton Hiltbrand says he was heading home Saturday when he hit the large bird in Lehi, Utah.
He thought the animal died on impact, but later realized it was alive, breathing and stuck behind the grill of his Ford Expedition.
The great horned owl didn’t appear to have serious injuries, but it took major effort from Hiltbrand and a wildlife expert to remove the bird safely. The entire rescue operation was captured on vide.
The owl was taken to a rehab facility nearby where it is expected to be on the mend for the next few weeks.
