PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — If you’re looking to kickstart your career in shipbuilding, there’s good news: Norfolk Naval Shipyard is hosting a job fair on Saturday.
According to a news release, the event will be held June 2 at the Chesapeake Conference Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will emphasize various production skill trades like shipfitters, welders, electricians (shipboard) and shipwrights/fabric workers.
Shipyard officials said in April that Congress granted “Direct Hire Authority” for certain jobs — meaning a large number of employees could be hired quickly.
According to officials, benefits of jobs at the shipyard include health and life insurance, 10 paid holidays annually and 13 vacation days.
