NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police responded to a fatal shooting at the Dundale Square Apartments Friday night.
Officers were called to the 6600 block of Chesapeake Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m.
The victim, identified by police Monday as 30-year-old Ryan Toppin, was pronounced deceased soon after medics arrived.
On Saturday, neighbors were still left wondering what happened in their community.
“It’s really quiet around here. Everyone is relatively friendly and the other part that is shocking is that we didn’t hear anything. Having to find everything out a little later is like the biggest shock for me,” said Vincent Sibug, who lives in the apartment complex where it happened.
While Sibug said he didn’t hear the shooting, another neighbor who spoke with 10 on Your Side off camera told us he heard two gunshots.
Many other neighbors, who have also lived there for a number of years, were also surprised by the tragedy and agreed that it’s usually calm.
Residents said they’ll be on the lookout and are hoping that something like this won’t happen again.
“It is kind of a concern for me at least but as long as we keep an eye out on what’s going on, we’ll see what happens,” Sibug said.
