NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk City Council will get an update on the St. Paul’s project during a work session Tuesday afternoon.

Last Thursday, Torti+Gallas architects revealed new sketches to replace the Tidewater Gardens apartments ,which includes 618 public housing units, with mixed income housing.

The sketch’s show adding new streets, parks, businesses, and maybe a new Tidewater Elementary School. The plan will also address flooding concerns by removing housing units from the floodplain.

“We keep a community that is safe and out of that flood zone going forward,” said Tom Gallas, CEO of Torti+Gallas.

Residents would not leave to make room for demolition for one year. The big question is how residents will be relocated during construction.

Tuesday’s work session is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Look for more coverage later today.
