RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVNS) – A Virginia woman is dead after being struck by a tractor-trailer on I-77 in Raleigh County.
According to a press release from West Virginia State Police, D’nessa Mercado of Norfolk, Virginia and her husband, Bryan Mercado, were traveling northbound on the West Virginia Turnpike at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Troopers said there was a domestic altercation in the vehicle, in which D’nessa reportedly started striking her husband. He pulled over to the shoulder and stopped the vehicle at around mile marker 34.
The release then said D’nessa exited the vehicle, walked into the north bound lane and was fatally struck by a tractor trailer.
An audio recording of events was obtained due to the fact that Bryan Mercado was on the phone with dispatch at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing. No criminal charges are being filed at this time.
