GATES COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — One person is dead and another sustained serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in Gates County Wednesday morning.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the call for the crash came in around 5:45 a.m. on U.S. Route 13 near NC37 in Gates County.

The investigation revealed that a car traveling northbound on US13 crossed over the center line and struck a tractor-trailer traveling southbound.

The tractor-trailer went off the road into a ditch, ejecting the driver, who became pinned under the vehicle. The driver, identified by NC Highway Patrol as 41-year-old Michael Faulk of Suffolk, died from his injuries.

The other driver was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in critical condition. Investigators are still working to determine why he crossed the center line.
