15 hurt in tornado that hit Rocky Mount, NC, fire chief says

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — CBS 17 Meteorologist Lance Blocker was on the ground in Rocky Mount when a ‘significant tornado’ touched down, heading north just at 1:31 p.m.

In a 3:30 p.m. press conference, Rocky Mount Fire Chief Darvin Moore said there were no fatalities but 15 people sustained injuries. Four of those include serious injuries, he said.


A total of 14 buildings were damaged and an 18-wheeler was overturned during the tornado which ripped through the area of Tiffany Blvd. and N. Wesleyan Blvd. Blocker spoke with the driver, who was unharmed.

One of several buildings majorly damaged was a medical supply store called Respracare, Inc.

This is in the area of US Route 301/Wesleyan Boulevard where it connects to Tiffany Blvd.
