KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) — A fire in Kill Devil Hills on the morning of April 5 required the evacuation of 17 people, officials said.

Around 3:30 a.m., the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 800 block of North Virginia Dare Trail. Upon arrival, firefighters worked to contain the fire to the house and ensure the safety of the occupants.

All 17 occupants evacuated the home and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews from Colington and Kitty Hawk assisted in the operation. The Kill Devil Hills Police Department, Dare County Sheriff’s Department and Dare County EMS were also on scene to provide aid.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“The Kill Devil Hill Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of equipping their home with working smoke alarms and to regularly test and replace their batteries,” a release states. “Every second counts in a home fire – its critical to plan and practice home escape routes.”
