RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man who police say abducted his four-year-old daughter surrendered to Durham police on Monday night, officials said.

Earlier in the day, an Amber Alert had been issued for the Durham girl who was taken by her biological father on Saturday.

Durham police said on Saturday, 37-year-old Mitchell Grayson broke into a home in the 800 block of Angier Avenue, badly beat one of the child’s family members, and then took the girl.

At around 9:40 p.m. Monday, our CBS 17 crew saw Grayson and his daughter walk into Durham Police Department headquarters and surrender to officers.

According to an Amber Alert, the girl was taken in a gray 2000 Chevrolet Astro Van with an N.C. license plate of HFS-74333. The words “take a picture it’ll last longer” were printed on the back of the van.

Grayson was arrested for aggravated assault, breaking and entering and injury to personal property, Durham police said.

After detectives interview the suspect, he will be taken to the Durham County Jail where the warrants will be served, according to police.

Police say the girl appears to be unharmed.
