DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — The construction of the new Bonner Bridge is a month or so behind schedule, because of the weather.
An official with NCDOT told 10 On Your Side the nearly $1 billion project was supposed to be complete in January, but now the opening is likely to happen in late February or early March.
He said two tropical systems and a wet Fall have put construction crews behind. They still have to install little things like guardrails, electrical systems, and wiring. Construction on the replacement bridge began in early March 2016.
Crews will demolish the old Bonner Bridge once the new one is complete.
