Currituck elementary student had knife on bus, officials say

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – The Currituck County School District sent a letter to families Wednesday informing them of an incident on a school bus the same day.

A knife was recovered from a W.T. Griggs Elementary School student following an investigation, the letter stated. The school received word that there was a student with a knife on a school bus. The school resource officer immediately looked into the report and ultimately confiscated the knife.

The school system said there was “no immediate threat to the safety of our school community” and that “appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken in accordance with district policies.”

The letter encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their children about the consequences of bringing a weapon to school, even fake ones.
