OAK RIDGE, N.C. (WGHP) — A deputy is recovering after being shot by a suspect in Guilford County, according to officials.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office says that they responded to “an incident” on Skippers Trace in Oak Ridge. During this response, a deputy was shot and taken to the hospital. The deputy is stable.

“Our thoughts go out to all of the affected members of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and we are proud to serve alongside them,” Guilford EMS says of the incident.

This suspect is also in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has been arrested.

Andrew Ryan Caetto, 54, of Oak Ridge, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer and felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, with warrants saying that he shot a victim with an assault rifle.

He is currently being held at the Guilford County Detention Center in Greensboro under no bond.

This is an ongoing investigation, but there is no threat to the public.

The sheriff’s office didn’t offer any information about what initially prompted the call.
