PASQUOTANK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — An Elizabeth City man is facing multiple charges, including drug possession, after he was pulled over by Pasquotank County Sheriff’s deputies.

On Saturday, June 21 deputies attempted to stop a gold Honda Accord in area of Ehringhaus Street and Griffin Street in Elizabeth City for an equipment violation.

Officials said the driver of the vehicle continued to drive at normal and safe speeds, but refused to pull over. Eventually, the driver stopped in a driveway near the 7000 block of Adams Street, but he did not comply with deputies orders to get out of the car.

The sheriff’s office identified the driver as Tysheem Dashaun Commander of Elizabeth City. Officials said Commander is a convicted felon, having previous convictions for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, common law robbery and possession with intent to manufacture, sell/distribute.

Commander was wanted for two outstanding warrants out of Perquimans County for assault on a female and injury to personal property.

Deputies seized the following items from the vehicle:

  • Draco pistol
  • 38 rounds of 7.62×39
  • 10 rounds of 12 gauge buck shot
  • Digital scales
  • Marijuana (26 grams)
  • Cocaine (5 grams)
  • 46 grams of an unknown substance
  • $1,534

Commander was arrested and taken to the Albemarle District Jail for the following charges:

  • 1 felony count-possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • 1 felony count-possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana
  • 1 felony count-maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance
  • 1 misdemeanor count-assault on a female
  • 1 misdemeanor count-injury to personal property
  • 1 misdemeanor count-failure to heed light/ siren
  • 2 misdemeanor counts-resisting public officer
  • 1 misdemeanor count-driving while license revoked
  • 1 misdemeanor count-window tint violation

On Monday, Commander’s bond was reduced from no bond to $71,00.00 secured bond. Commander posted his $71,000.00 bond and has been released from Albemarle District
Jail.
