EDENTON, N.C. (WAVY) – In a first for the town, an Edenton Police Chief was sworn into the Office of President of the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police (NCACP) on Wednesday.

Police Chief Henry King Jr. was sworn in on Jan. 17 and said he plans to continue to advance and magnify the highest ethical and professional standards in law enforcement for the State of North Carolina.

King, who has been a member of the NCACP since 2018, has served as a Regional Director, Sergeant at Arms, Secretary and Vice President throughout his time as a member.

This is not all King has been apart of though. He also served as Chairman of the Training Committee, served on the North Carolina Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission and served as a North Carolina Locksmith Licensing Commission board member.

“I am honored to serve as the NCACP President for 2024-25 and look forward to representing this noble profession and association around the State of North Carolina,” said Chief King. “Over the past several years, the State of North Carolina has experienced several challenges, and this organization is committed to bridging the gap with our community partners, citizens and legislators to ensure our communities as well as our officers remain safe as well.”
