DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A multimillion-dollar renovation project for the Alligator River Bridge was recently completed, transportation officials say.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation said work on the 59-year-old bridge included joint replacements, repairs to the concrete superstructure and rehabilitation of the swing span.
The bridge on U.S. Highway 64 spans Tyrrell and Dare counties, and is an important route for people traveling to and from the Outer Banks.
NCDOT said the the $16.7 million, 17-month project was completed last week.
