OUTER BANKS, N.C. (WAVY) — North Carolina officials closed a portion of NC 12 on Sunday morning due to high tide and unsafe road conditions.
In a tweet from NCDOT NC12 just before 8:30 Monday morning, officials said NC12 between the Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe was still closed. Officials said roadways were first covered in water after the morning high tide breached the sand dunes on Sunday, and it could be until Tuesday until the dunes are safely fixed.
In the meantime, motorists are advised to avoid traveling on NC 12 in this area until further notice. Major tidal flooding was still expected in the Outer Banks for Monday.
