CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A CMPD officer and a suspect were both injured following a shooting during an attempted traffic stop Sunday night in south Charlotte.
Officers were called to an assault with a deadly weapon in the 8900 block of E. Arrowood Road.
Preliminary information indicated that officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a possible suspect vehicle when the suspect pulled out a handgun and exchanged gunfire with police.
CMPD confirms that one officer and a suspect were struck by gunfire. During a news conference Sunday night, officials said the officer was shot multiple times and had very serious injuries.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital for their injuries. Another officer involved in the shooting was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Officials say a firearm was recovered from the scene.
