WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A suspect was arrested last month in connection to a 14-year-old cold case in Winston-Salem, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release.

On Jan. 11, 2010, at 12:09 p.m., officers responded to a home on North Jackson Avenue to help Forsyth County Emergency Services with a deceased person call.

Arriving officers found Dwight Smith 57, of Winston-Salem, dead inside the home.

Smith was found with cuts on his body.

In May 2024, WSPD investigators got information that led to the homicide case of Smith being reopened by cold case detectives, and they worked alongside the North Las Vegas Police Department to bring this case to a close after 14 years.

As a result of further investigation, warrants for arrest for felony murder were obtained on May 30, 2024, for 58-year-old Christopher Allen Wilson.

Wilson remains in custody in Las Vegas on unrelated charges, and he is awaiting extradition.
