ARCHDALE, N.C. (WGHP) — Checkers is one of the oldest games in the world, and some professional players are taking their positions in the Piedmont.
“My father started getting me in to checkers, which is why I started at a very young age,” said Alex Holmes who is going up against 11-Man Ballot World Champion Alexander Moiseyev at this year’s World and European Championship.
Moiseyev has held the title for 16 years now.
It can be intense and grueling for the mind. It takes a lot more strategy than what people think by playing out all the future moves of your opponent.
Holmes grew up learning under Moiseyev.
“Every time you play against him, you learn something,” Holmes said.
Moiseyev won the weeklong tournament. You can learn more about the tournaments and future games by click here.
