VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — This is no joke. The U.S. Navy Band is set to perform a free concert in Virginia Beach on April 1.
The U.S. Navy Band is a subset of the Navy and consist of six different ensembles, a release states. These ensembles include the Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, Sea Chanter chorus, Commodores jazz ensemble, Country Current country/bluegrass ensemble and the Cruisers popular music group.
To celebrate the Navy’s 250th Anniversary, the band is currently on tour across the United States’ southeast region.
“Touring the nation and performing concerts means connecting with communities and telling the great stories of our Sailors working around the globe to keep us safe and free,” said commanding U.S. Navy Band officer Capt. Robert “Seph” Coats, in a release.
At this family-friendly event, guests will be able to hear musical genres such as pop, patriotic, traditional and musical theater, a release states.
Among the touring band members includes Virginia native Jessie Nunn.
Nunn was raised in Virginia Beach and attended Salem High School’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy, according to a release. After graduating, he attended Full Sail University and earned a Bachelor of Science in music production. In 2021, Nunn joined the Navy Music Program as a vocalist and has since become a member of the Sea Chanters chorus.
The tour’s Virginia Beach performance takes place at the Sandler Center and is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
