NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A suspect in a domestic situation crashed into a Norfolk police vehicle Friday morning, injuring himself and an officer, police say.
Norfolk police said officers were called to a reported situation at Bayview Terrace Apartments on Tidewater Drive around 2:15 a.m. Police initially said in a tweet that an officer was hit by car.
Police later said that a suspect, identified as 21-year-old Thyshajuan Rondo-Parker, originally of Columbus, Ohio, returned to the scene while officers were investigating, driving at a high rate of speed. The suspect hit a marked police vehicle that had an officer inside.
Rondo-Parker is in the Norfolk jail charged with strangulation in connection with the domestic assault. He also has been charged with malicious injury and destruction of property.
Both Rondo-Parker and the officer were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to police.
Police said both vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash.

10 On Your Side spoke with one woman who lives in the area.
“That makes me mad. When I saw the truck like that. I said my god I hope nobody got hurt. The truck was hit very bad,” she said. “These people are out there to protect us and they get hurt and it’s just a bad feeling. I don’t like to hear that no where.”
