PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said officers who responded to a call about a stabbing at a training center in the Manassas area Tuesday afternoon opened fire, killing the person believed to be responsible for the stabbing.

The Prince William County Police Department said officers went to the apprenticeship training center, located in the 7000 block of Infantry Ridge Dr., around 3:25 p.m. When they arrived, police found the person with a knife near the front entrance. More than one officer opened fire, hitting the person, who died at the scene.

Police found two people who had been stabbed. Officers provided first aid to those people before medics took them to the hospital.

As of 5:12 p.m., the Prince William County Police Department said the situation was contained and that there was no threat to the community.

Chief Peter Newsham asked for assistance from the regional Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) to oversee the investigation as an independent body.
