VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Schools near the Something in the Water festival will not be dismissing early, but officials are alerting parents about expected congestion.
In a message to parents and gaurdians on Tuesday, Virginia Beach City Public Schools officials said there may be a minor delay in children getting home Friday afternoon.
Virginia Beach Middle School and W.T. Cooke Elementary School are the schools that are located closest to the festival area.

This is an important message from Virginia Beach City Public Schools. This Friday, April 26th, there may be some congestion on the roads ahead of events at the oceanfront this weekend. While there will be no early dismissal for our students, we do want to alert you that there may be a minor delay in your child’s arrival home from school that afternoon. We appreciate your understanding and patience regarding this matter and look forward to seeing your child in school this week.
Virginia Beach schools will be playing a key role in transportation for the event, as officials agreed to a plan to use school buses as a means to shuttle people around. Hundreds of bus drivers have reportedly signed up to drive for the festival.
The buses won’t be available until 5 p.m. Friday. Under the approved agreement, buses will run until 3:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 11 p.m. Sunday night.
