WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Firefighters in D.C. were called to the Whole Foods parking garage in Northwest after a car crashed and was discovered partially hanging from the building on Thursday morning.

In a post on X just after 9 a.m., the DC Fire and EMS Department said crews responded to the 4500 block of 40th Street.

There, firefighters found an SUV partially hanging off the second level of the garage.

As shown in the pictures, pieces of the building fell onto the sidewalk and the front of the SUV was damaged.

Officials said the driver safely escaped, and the building did not have any structural issues.

Neighbors walking in the area said for something like this to happen early in the morning is interesting.

“How did it cause that much damage?… It ripped a lot off. There is styrofoam there that is kind of questionable,” said Fiona Harris.

At this time, it is unclear what led to the crash.
