VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police blocked off part of the Kempsville Marketplace shopping center Sunday morning as they investigated a shooting that left a man dead.
Virginia Beach police responded to the parking lot of the Kempsville Market Place Shopping Center on Princess Anne Road around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. They located a man suffering from a gunshot wound and first responders say he died at the scene.
The man killed was identified Monday as 32-year-old Brian Arthur Evans.
Police haven’t released any suspect information.
10 On Your Side spoke with one woman who works in the plaza who described what she saw as she was pulling into work.
“This morning when I got to work we noticed there was police and forensic officers everywhere and we couldn’t get into the parking lot to open the brunch place and then i turned around and there was a man laying in the street,” said witness Lexi Geoghegan.
She says the body was not far from where she works. “The caution tape was right after our restaurant… people were (walking) in and out of Cali’s,” she said, referring to Cali’s Sports Bar and Grill.”
Other neighbors, who didn’t wanted to remain anonymous, say there was a party going on nearby. Neighboring residents say they even heard the shots because they left their bedroom windows open over night.
Witnesses say that police were on scene until about 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
