HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police say a man was shot Monday night in an incident that happened in the area of Easterly Avenue and Foley Street.
Police say dispatch received a call about a reported shooting around 9:30 p.m. on June 4.
Officers responded to the area and found a 34-year-old man lying in the intersection with a gunshot wound. Police say the man was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police say that illegal narcotics and several shell casings were found at the scene. Two homes in the area were hit by gunfire, but no additional injuries were reported.
According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates the suspect(s) and victim were exchanging gunfire. The exact circumstances are still under investigation, but police believe this is an isolated incident.
