Name: Richard W. Bradshaw

Race: James City County Commissioner of Revenue

Age: 71

Bio: I am a lifelong resident of James City County, graduating from James Blair High School in 1970. I then went to Hampden-Sydney College, receiving a B.S. degree in 1974. After spending 12 years in retail sales, I went back to school, taking accounting classes at William & Mary outside of any degree program. I then spent 10 years in private practice accounting, including general bookkeeping and tax preparation services. In 1993, I took the position as Business Tax Auditor in the James City County Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office, where I was responsible for assessing local business taxes as well as assisting in the processing and preparation of Virginia Income Tax returns. It has been my privilege to serve as the elected Commissioner of the Revenue for the last 24 years.

Why are you running for this office?

I am seeking re-election to the office of Commissioner of the Revenue because I feel that I am still the most qualified and best prepared person to serve the citizens of James City County in this position.

Would you support making the tax payments of businesses who are party of economic incentives public?

This particular issue is outside of the purview of the Commissioner’s Office. However, it should be noted that certain tax assessments are prohibited by statute from disclosure because they are based upon information deemed confidential within the State Code.
