Why are you running for this office?

The reason, that I am running for this office is the following:

To ensure that our schools are a safe space.

To ensure that our schools are fully accredited yearly, and that we explore implementation of high school ” wall to wall” academies. ie The Academies of Hampton

Lastly, I want to get off the ” Side Line”.

What is the top challenge facing Newport News Public Schools, and how would you address it?

The biggest challenge facing the Newport News Public School System, in my opinion is Safety, and Academic outcomes.

In regards to Safety, I would like to see a weekly “Safety Check”, by school district personnel, to ensure that all safety protocols are being implemented properly.

Regarding academic outcomes, I think we need to continue to revise the pre-K curriculum, to include ” Wall to Wall” Academies at the high school level.

What do you believe still needs to be changed following the Grand Jury’s Report on Richneck Elementary School?

Regarding the Richneck Shooting, I think a case study should be done using ” lesson learned. This incident can be a learning tool for school divisions throughout America.

Do you believe parents of other students should be informed of disciplinary action in the classroom?

I believe schools should continue to ensure that parents, and guardians receive on-time information regarding safety issues that may affect a child’s education.

How will you still value constituents with whom you disagree with?

I have spent my adult life working with people from all backgrounds. Having a seat at the table (getting elected), will give me the opportunity to be a bridge builder in our community.

What is your view on the Governor’s Executive Order to ban cell phone use?

Regarding the Governor’s order to ban cell phones, I think school divisions, should work together to shape a state-wide policy, using best practice methods.
