NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Councilman-Elect Carlos Clanton was sworn into office on November 22 after the Norfolk Electoral Board certified the election results.
Clanton’s challenger, Phillip Hawkins Jr., previously requested the race be recounted after Clanton won by less than 100 votes.
Clanton won’t begin his official duties as a City Councilman until January. However, city law requires elected and appointed city officials to be sworn in within 10 days of being elected or appointed.
Clanton said in a statement he will host a public Oath of Office Ceremony in January to celebrate the milestone with community members.
