NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — For the past few weeks, drivers on Westminster Avenue in Norfolk have had to keep an eye out for a rather large pothole that takes up almost half the road.
“It’s just getting bigger and bigger and bigger,” said Norfolk resident Stephanie Cutright. “I’ve called the city. I called them over a week ago.”
The pothole sits right in front of Cutright’s house. She says it shouldn’t take the city this long to fix a road hazard.
“I’m surprised, if you hit it very hard you don’t blow your tire out or damage your vehicle,” Cutright said.
To make a point, and show the size of this, Cutright took pictures lying down in the pothole.
“I laid down in it and there’s like two feet of pavement more in the hole, it’s that big. I’m 5’4,” but I can lay out spread eagle in that hole.”
The pothole measured 9.5 feet long by 4.5 feet wide, and about 4 inches deep.
Aside from being a danger to drivers, Cutright says trucks driving over the pothole makes an already loud road even louder.
“The noise, you hit that hole and these big trucks just reverberate with the sound. I would like to see the city fix my street.”
We reached out the city Wednesday morning about the pothole, officials got back to us that afternoon saying crews went out to patch up the roadway.
