ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Every first Saturday in April is Virginia Trout Heritage Day. This year is it on April 6.
Twenty bodies of water around the commonwealth will received special stockings of trout for the event. It celebrates Virginia’s rich trout fishing heritage and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources world-class trout management program.
Those water bodies stocked for the event will be closed to fishing until 9:00 a.m. Saturday. The event is meant to provide an “Opening Day” feel, reminiscent of years past when Virginia had a closed season on trout fishing and opening day was a special day.
Rainbow, brown, and brook trout will be stocked depending on the location.
