VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office is once again warning the public about jury duty scams.

In an update this week, the sheriff’s office said the scam is still going around.

“Remember: we will NEVER call you and demand payment over the phone for missed jury duty or any other reason,” the sheriff’s office says. “We also won’t ask you to meet a deputy in-person to provide payment. Please don’t fall for this scam and help spread the word to your friends and family.”

The sheriff’s office has warned about the scams for years, most recently back in September. The scams have popped up elsewhere locally and nationwide, including in Norfolk.

The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office said anyone with questions about jury duty should call 757-385-4589.
