NORFOLK (WAVY) – In a post on Twitter, Seahawks Safety Kam Chancellor, also a graduate of Maury High School, indicated his playing days are over.

Chancellor, 30, missed much of last season with a serious neck injury, but said he would return, should his health permit him. In his post, Chancellor said, “I’ve played through all types of bruises and injuries at a high level. But this one, I just can’t ignore.

“To walk away from the game by choice is one thing, to walk away from the game because of the risk of paralysis is another. My final test showed no healing,” he continued.

Considered one of the most ferocious defenders in the league, Chancellor was drafted in the fifth round (133rd overall) by the Seahawks in the 2010 draft, and helped the franchise win Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos.

He’s a four-time Pro Bowl selection, and a helped the Hokies win back-to-back ACC titles in 2007 and 2008.
