NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk man has died days after being shot in the same location of a 2017 fatal shooting in which he was accused of murder.

31-year-old Maurice Hyman was shot just before midnight on June 1 in the 900 block of Bagnall Road in the Calvert Square neighborhood of the city, according to police. Officers arrived on scene and found Hyman lying in the road suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died five days later from his injuries.

While at the scene, police were also notified about a 31-year-old man who walked into Sentara Norfolk Hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound. Police say that both Hyman and the other man were shot in the 900 block of Bagnall.

Bagnall Road — that’s same location that 34-year-old Zuton T. Carpenter was fatally shot back in 2017.

Police identified Hyman as the shooting suspect and charged him with second-degree murder, but the charges were later nolle prossed.

Detectives haven’t identified a suspect in Hyman’s shooting, but they ask anyone with information to contact the Norfolk Crime Line.
