SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A man is in custody after he allegedly shot his brother in the stomach during an argument, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
On Sept. 2, around 7:45 p.m., deputies responded to the 6200 block of Woodhue Court for a shooting.
There, SCSO said deputies found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Deputies immediately began helping him, and responders took him to the hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, authorities learned that the victim and his brother, 34-year-old Caleb Ralph Merswin got into an argument. Deputies said that’s when the fight escalated and Caleb shot him.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, several witnesses including multiple family members were present during the fight.
Deputies charged Merswin with Malicious wounding and the Use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the brother’s condition was unknown.
