NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton woman is facing charges after another woman was found shot late Wednesday morning in Newport News, police say.
Newport News police said dispatchers received a call just after 11:15 a.m. about a gunshot victim at a Speedway gas station in the 6100 block of Jefferson Avenue.
Responding officer found a 23-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was taken to a local hospital with injuries considered to be not life-threatening.
Police said it was reported the woman was leaving the nearby Riverlands Apartments in her vehicle when she was shot at, and struck by gunfire.
The woman drove to the gas station, where police and medics were called.
Police said warrants were obtained for 28-year-old Lorri Smith, of Hampton, after further investigation.
Smith is charged with malicious wounding, maliciously shoot/throw at vehicle, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, purchase/transport firearm during protective order and emergency protection order violation
