NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A suspect has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to a 2016 double shooting in Newport News that left one man dead.
Newport News police said officers responded to the 4600 Block of Marshall Avenue on Dec. 18, 2016, where they found two people had been shot.
Police said one of the victims, a 40-year-old man, was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening. The second victim, 33-year-old Sean Clinton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said several bullet casings were recovered from the scene. Two suspects were reportedly seen fleeing from the area that night.
Clinton’s mother, Rosebud Parker, said in a 2018 interview with 10 On Your Side, “These people, they don’t know they have devastated me. I have been actually ripped apart. It’s like I’ve gotten killed.”
On Feb. 25, 2019, officers charged a 19-year-old man with second-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in a felony.
Police said the suspect’s name and photo are not being released since the crime happened when he was a juvenile.
