UPDATE Jan. 16, 2020: Charges of second-degree murder, unlawful wounding during the commission of a felony, malicious wounding, and hit and run-personal injury were certified to the grand jury.

Trial is set in the Virginia Beach Circuit Court for March 18.


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The suspect in a bizarre chain of events in Virginia Beach that left one man dead and a woman injured is now charged with second-degree murder.

Police officially charged 33-year-old Roel Delua with second-degree murder and unlawful wounding. Delua was arraigned on the charges on Feb. 4.

Authorities say Delua was leaving his burning home last week on Rose Petal Drive– when he hit a woman with his car. Delua left the scene.

Police later found 32-year-old John Kilgore dead inside the home. Delua and kilgore lived together in the house.

Delua was back in court for a bond hearing on hit-and-run charges.
