ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — The teenage daughter of a woman killed in Elizabeth City earlier this month has been charged with first-degree murder, police say.

Elizabeth City police said the daughter of 30-year-old Ashley Dozier-Tyler was identified as a suspect in her Aug. 23 murder. The teen was found in Newark, New Jersey, along with her mother’s car.

Police said Dozier-Tyler was found dead inside of a home on North Road.

Dozier-Tyler’s daughter — who has not been named by police — is also faced with a larceny of a motor vehicle charge. The teen will be extradited back to Pasquotank County following a Sept. 6 hearing in Essex County, New Jersey.

Police said the Pasquotank County District Attorney’s Office is working with the Essex County Prosecutors Office on her extradition as well as pending charges.
