CRAIG COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Through the flooding and damage and tragedy left behind by Hurricane Helene across the region, there are examples of brave first responders who risk their lives in the name of public service.

During the storms on Friday, ten members of the Lynchburg Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue team arrived in Craig County to assist with the impacts of Helene in that area.

After arriving, the boat team helped rescue a civilian, as well as two volunteer firefighters who were trapped in their vehicles during rising flood waters.
