HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 6-year-old and a 12-year-old were injured after they both fell over 30 feet into a well in Hanover County on Thursday.

Just after 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, Hanover Fire-EMS units responded to the 7400 block of Studley Road for a confined space rescue.

When first responders arrived, they discovered that two children — a 6-year-old and a 12-year-old — had fallen about 35 feet into a well.

Ladders and a rope system were used by first responders to safely retrieve the children from the well. By 2:14 p.m., both victims were rescued.

According to fire officials, both children reported minor injuries. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“Hanover County Fire-EMS encourages all residents to ensure wells are appropriately covered and maintained,” a spokesperson said.
