RICHMOND, Va (WAVY) — The Supreme Court of Virginia has dismissed an appeal by Shaun Brown, effectively upholding another judge’s ruling that removes her from the ballot in the 2nd Congressional District.
On Monday, Brown filed to appeal last week’s decision and also filed motions to expedite the appeal.
In a decision Wednesday, three justices wrote that “Neither filing was accompanied by the required copy of the proceedings, and no further filings have been received from Brown.”
This is a victory for the Virginia Democratic Party, which originally brought the suit. The party accused members of Rep. Scott Taylor’s campaign staff of forging signatures to help Brown get on the Nov. 6 ballot in the 2nd Congressional District race.
Democrats claimed Taylor’s campaign wanted Brown on the ballot to bolster his re-election by weakening support for his Democratic opponent.
Brown announced her intentions to run for the 2nd Congressional District without seeking the Democratic Primary in March. She was defeated by Taylor in 2016 when she ran as a Democratic candidate.
The lower court judge ruled because there were so many forged signatures it took her below the 1,000 signature requirement to appear on the ballot.
